AKC Canine Good Citizen

AKC Canine Good Citizen

Started in 1989, the AKC Canine Good Citizen program is designed to reward dogs who have good manners at home and in the community. The CGC program stresses responsible pet ownership and basic manners for dogs. All dogs who pass the 10 step Canine Good Citizen test may receive a certificate from the American Kennel Club. CGC training enhances the bond between you and your dog and you will discover the many benefits and pleasures of working with your dog. Dogs who have a solid obedience education are a joy to live with, they respond well to household routines, have good manners in the presence of people and other dogs, and they fully enjoy the company of their owner. We sincerely hope that CGC will only be a beginning for you and your dog and that after passing the CGC test, you’ll continue training in obedience, agility, tracking or other performance events.

Canine Good Citizen classes run for 5 weeks at a time. They are typically offered at our facility on Wednesday evenings. When you sign up for the class, you will need to commit to all 5 sessions to be eligible to take the test on the final day of class.

We believe that responsible dog ownership is a life commitment and endorse the AKC Canine Good Citizen Program. We have several members of our staff who are certified evaluators and as an additional service, we offer CGC classes here at our facility throughout the year. Our next available class will begin in February 2024. Please contact us to sign up for our next CGC class.
