Sauvie Island Kennels was the first boarding and training kennels established on beautiful Sauvie Island, which is surrounded by the waters of the Columbia and Willamette Rivers and Multnomah Channel, in the northwest corner of Oregon. Sauvie Island and the surrounding wetland areas are a major part of the Pacific flyway for wintering waterfowl and nationally known for the outstanding birdwatching and hunting opportunities that exist here.
In the early 1950s, the property was better known as Lake Tree Kennels and housed working retrievers. Over the many years, the kennels and its ownership changed hands many times. In 1988, Tim and Angela Schillereff acquired the property from their relatives, Elden “Red” and Marguerette Persinger and began a total renovation and remodeling of the buildings. Still located across from Sturgeon lake and surrounded by trees, Sauvie Island Kennels today is nationally known as a premier boarding and training facility serving the greater Portland metropolitan area and beyond.
Tim and Angela Schillereff, together with their sons, Nick and Tyler, and their experienced and attentive staff strive to provide a warm and caring environment for their boarding and training guests.
